San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) January 6, 2009 — The Second Annual Best and Worst Celebrity Diet List of 2008 today named the celebrities who are the best and worst role models for healthy eating and sustainable weight loss. The list is presented by Marc Lawrence, M.D., who reviews celebrity diets and celebrity weight loss at celebritydietdoctor.com
“This year the buzz around Hollywood is that ‘diets don’t work’,” said Dr Marc. “Lifestyle behaviors, frequently the difference between successful weight loss and a lifetime of yo-yo dieting, are responsible for some of Hollywood’s blockbuster slim downs and flops.”
Best Celebrity Diets for 2008:
5. Jennifer Love Hewitt: Those unflattering bikini photos seem so long ago as this Ghost Whisperer star has been letting her body speak loud and clear; daily fruits and veggies do a body good.
4. Jessica Alba: Jessica exercised her superhero abilities on a regimen of whole foods, cardio and interval training to power her fantastic 25 pound post-pregnancy slim down.
3. Debra Messing: Eating gracefully, Debra lost 42 pounds of her post-baby weight by sticking to a diet high in unprocessed veggies, fruits and lean protein.
2. Kelly Osbourne: By fixing her refined carb cravings with her new addiction to veggies and fruits, Kelly Osbourne is reborn with a healthy new figure.
1. Britney Spears: Since ditching her “Toxic” junk food diet for veggies and lean protein, Britney is sporting a new outlook and an A-list slim down that has everyone wanting “A Piece of Me.”
And the Worst Celebrity Diets for 2008:
5. Carnie Wilson: Carnie proves that even gastric bypass is not a fix for sabotaging behaviors. Despite her much publicized surgery and weight loss, this Celebrity Fit Club participant regained 58 pounds. (Her yo-yo dieting continues; she most recently lost 50 pounds before her current pregnancy.)
4. Monica Seles: This former tennis star may have lost 33 pounds on a high protein diet but she also increased her risk of chronic disease. Advantage: heart disease, cancer, and osteoporosis.
3. Hilary Swank: 47 ways to sub-optimal health. Reportedly downing 47 “million dollar” supplements a day, this Million Dollar Baby star is unwittingly subjecting her body to accelerated aging.
2. Kim Kardashian: Kim has kept her shapely “junk in the trunk” figure with exercise and a gig on Dancing with The Stars. However, her junk food diet will inevitably cause… too much junk.
1. Oprah Winfrey: The queen of media and yo-yo dieter is the poster child for “diets don’t work.” Proper weight loss behaviors and habits should be one of Oprah’s “favorite things.”

18 pounds lighter in just 10 weeks! How did Jennifer Love Hewitt get such dramatic results in such a short amount of time after being highly criticized by the press last Fall for her fuller figure? Personal trainer, Stevie Sant’Angelo, helped the 29 year-old actress bounce back to a trimmer figure by sticking to a daily 1,200 to 1,500 calorie diet (started out 1,500 to 1,800 calories) and hitting the gym for an hour 3-4 times a week.
Hewitt eats 3 meals a day that are relatively high in protein including lean turkey, roasted chicken, cottage cheese, low-fat yogurt, and fish along with whole grains and vegetables and snacks twice a day on whole grains and fruit (only until 2 P.M. or 3 P.M., to maintain energy and prevent late-night snacking).
Her workout regimen includes a 10 minute cardio warm-up (jump rope or treadmill), followed by 45 minutes of a kettlebell-focused workout that involves: one-arm military presses using 18-pound cast-iron bells, bicep curls with 15-pound bells paired with squats, single-leg touch-downs with a tricep kickback using 18-pound bells and jumps holding 15-pound bells (three sets of 15 reps each). The workout ends with three one-minute full-body planks.
The combination of cardio to burn fat and weight training to tone and build lean body mass form the basis for a healthy, long term approach to exercise.
When Jennifer trains on her own her hour long workout routine looks like this: 40 minutes of cardio, such as roller skating (her favorite), incline training on the treadmill or swimming.
Upper body: three sets each of 15 pushups, three-minute body planks and one-minute bicycle crunches.
Lower body: 25 lunges on each leg (three sets), tones her inner thighs and core by lying on her back with hands underneath the tailbone and opening and closing legs in a Y position (three sets of 50 reps) and ends with three sets of 50 donkey kicks.

Baron Davis joined another team besides the Clippers this offseason: Jenny Craig’s. Davis has followed Kirstie Alley, Valerie Bertinelli and Queen Latifah in becoming a high-profile client of the weight loss program. The 29-year-old point guard (listed at 6-foot-3, 215 pounds) started the diet in August to gear up for training camp, according to People Magazine:
During the NBA off-season, Davis let his fitness slide. “In the off-season, it’s kind of hard to maintain day-to-day,” he says. “I don’t want to get up and cook. And when I pig out, I’m the type of person where there’s no limit to what I can do.” … While he won’t reveal how much weight he’s lost on Jenny Craig until a press conference in L.A. on Friday, Davis says he feels “great” and has “a lot more energy.”
Davis, incidentally, played all 82 games with the Warriors last season. He had been plagued by injuries in each of the previous four seasons.

With her most recent comeback, there’s been rumors that Britney Spears might be looking to start a new line of fitness DVD’s. A pop star making a DVD about fitness? It makes perfect sense as the dance choreography she incorporates into her performances would rival some of the best fitness DVDs out there.
It was said that she was inspired to make her own fitness DVD’s when she came across some old Jane Fonda exercise tapes (back then there was no DVD!). Combine that inspiration with her love for dance and movement, you naturally would then get the Britney Spears Workout DVD Collection.
As of now, it hasn’t been confirmed but stay tuned for more information. We’ll be the first to get a copy of it and take a look and see how we can incorporate that into our daily workout routines for our clients!

According to US Weekly, John Mayer’s been sporting his transformed hard bod around town thanks to five months of Krav Maga, an intense form of self-defense. James Sherman, personal trainer, has been working with the Grammy-Award winning singer up to five days a week at NYC’s Rich Barretta Private Training Studio.
Punching and kicking has been the core of his training. The talented singer-songwriter enjoys the speed, power and confidence that this form of martial art entails. Mayer, 30, is extremely dedicated to his workout, as do fellow devotees Hilary Swank and Jennifer Lopez, and has definitely been paying off!

Fergie is the ultimate workout machine, making sure to hit every part of her body (biceps, abs, butt and legs) to stay completely fit. The 5-foot-2 singer says, “I’ll do arm repetitions while hiking” according to US Weekly. To maintain her hard bod physique, Fergie relies on 90 minute hikes, weight lifting twice a week, 100 sit-ups four times a week and yoga sessions.
Fergie’s healthy diet plan is credited to the delivery service Diet Designs (dietdesigns.com) where she notices a significant difference when following the program precisely. She is so devoted to the plan that she requests hotel rooms with a fridge to store her meals. Occasionally she treats herself to chocolate soufflé with whipped cream… everyone deserves to splurge sometime!
The 33 year-old singer stays away from alcohol for the most part with only an occasional glass of wine.

According to US Weekly, the 5-foot-10 tennis champ lost control of her life and weight when she was stabbed by a fan in 1993. Seles says, “It was clearly manifested in my body that I was sad and depressed” after packing on more than twenty pounds and growing to a size 14. After several failed diet attempts, she started eating in moderation two years ago and seeing the weight come off. Now after shedding 33 pounds, Seles is a proud and slim size 6!
Fad dieting always seemed to fail her, so now her new diet regimen consists of 60 percent protein, 20 percent fat and 20 percent carbs. This former pro-athlete who used to work out five hours a day now keeps in shape exercising 20 minutes on the elliptical machine, 30 minutes of weights (bicep curls and chest presses) and takes a 10 minute walk twice a week.
Seles says, “I make sure to walk everywhere. It adds up!”
